One person is dead after a shooting in Kansas City on Wednesday night.

Police got a report of a shooting in the 3700 block of St. John Avenue around 7:30 p.m. When they arrived at the parking lot of a convenience store at the corner of St. John and Monroe avenues, they found a man with gunshot wounds, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Lifesaving measures were attempted, but medical personnel declared the victim dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates there was an incident between people in the parking lot just before the victim was shot.

Detectives are checking surveillance footage and canvassing for witnesses, DiMartino said.
