Man kept gun next to kids’ backpacks, had cocaine packaged in Doritos box, Ohio cops say
A loaded gun was left next to kids’ backpacks as drugs were kept in a concealed Doritos box next to where one child prepared their lunch, Ohio police said.
A 24-year-old man accused of distributing cocaine in Columbus had his apartment searched by detectives on March 24, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Two children were in the apartment while the search was conducted, deputies said. One had been making their school lunch.
Over 100 grams of cocaine sealed inside a Doritos box was left on a counter within arm’s reach of the child preparing their food, according to deputies. Additionally, deputies said “materials used in the manufacturing of narcotics” were on the counter.
The gun, which was stolen from the city, was sitting loaded and unsecured next to the kids’ backpacks, deputies said.
Detectives also found 47 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 109 grams of suspected cocaine and $1,799 in cash during the search, the sheriff’s office said.
The man was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine. Deputies said more charges are possible from prosecutors as deputies continue to investigate.
