Body recovered from private pond could be missing Olathe man, investigators say
Authorities believe a body recovered from a private pond on Monday may be missing Olathe man Jordan Yust, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s deputies responded near 247th Street and U.S. 69 Highway near Louisburg around 5:30 p.m. Monday, after a property owner found a man lying dead in his pond, said Undersheriff Matthew Kelly.
Investigators are waiting on a medical examiner to determine the man’s identity and cause of death. Authorities believe the man could be Yust based on his description, Kelly said.
The property where the body was recovered Monday was previously searched by boat, land, and air in the first week of Jordan’s disappearance, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. Investigators are now working to determine when the body may have entered the water.
Family members were present at the scene during the recovery, Monday, Kelly said.
Jordan Yust last seen driving Honda Odyssey
Yust, 38, was last seen around 11 a.m. March 3, driving a silver Honda Odyssey and leaving the area of 14100 Block of West 141st Place. That same day, someone found the van on Highway 69, just north of 247th Street, with Yust’s wallet inside, the engine running and hazards on.
Yust was labeled as endangered due to statements of self-harm, according to a news release from the Olathe Police Department.
Family and friends previously told The Star that Yust had suffered a mental break and left his house in a hurry. Jeff Maxwell, a longtime friend of Yust, said he is not a danger to anyone and that family is worried about his well-being.
Maxwell said Yust is a great husband and friend, and that he is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Yust worked as a software engineer at Garmin. He has two kids, twin six-year-old girls and a three-year-old son.
The search in Olathe man’s disappearance
Investigators received tips almost daily since Yust went missing, most of which did not lead to valuable information, Kelly said.
The week of March 10, bloodhounds alerted on Yust’s scent near 247th Street and Ridgeview Road during one of several large searches since he went missing.
Kelly said although a body has been found, the investigation into Yusts’ disappearance is still ongoing. The Sheriff’s Department will release the identify of the body when a medical examiner makes it available, Kelly said.
