Eric Stonestreet reportedly will play serial killer in Showtime’s ‘Dexter: Resurrection’
Are you ready to see Eric Stonestreet’s killer instincts?
The Kansas native and Chiefs superfan will have a high-profile guest arc on Showtime’s new drama series, “Dexter: Resurrection,” which has been filming in New York since January, the network announced Monday.
Stonestreet’s character is believed to be a serial killer from the Midwest like the Kansas native himself, according to entertainment news outlet Deadline.
Stonestreet shared Showtime’s announcement, punctuated with a knife emoji, on his Instagram Monday: “The killer cast keeps growing…. welcome @ericstonestreet #DexterResurrection.”
This “Dexter” spin-off follows “Dexter: Original Sin,” a prequel series about Dexter Morgan’s transition from student to serial killer. “Original Sin,” which debuted last year, became Showtime’s most-streamed global original series in 10 years.
Michael C. Hall, the original Dexter, narrated the series and is set to reprise the role on-screen in “Dexter: Resurrection.”
Dexter fans will also recognize David Zayas and James Remar, who will reprise their roles from the original series, TV Insider reports.
Peter Dinklage, who played megavillain Leon Prater in the first season, will also return, and Uma Thuman joins the cast as Prater’s security chief.
Neil Patrick Harris as Lowell and Krysten Ritter as Mia will guest star, Showtime said.
“It’s easily the most jam-packed cast the beloved show has ever had, which is saying a lot since the show has featured some tremendous star power in the past with the likes of John Lithgow, Clancy Brown, and Jimmy Smits,” writes ComicBook.com.
Stonestreet is best-known for his Emmy-winning role as Cameron Tucker on ABC’s hit comedy series, “Modern Family,” which ended in 2020 after 11 seasons.
Most recently, he starred as Mad Santa on the Disney+ series, “The Santa Clauses,” and earned a fourth Emmy nomination.
On “Dexter: Resurrection,” he reportedly will play a character named Al from the Midwest.
And we can’t wait to find out if he wears Chiefs gear — or maybe purple.
Or ... maybe he’ll be a killer clown? Cameron Tucker surely wouldn’t mind the use of his alter ego.
Stonestreet is proud of his Kansas roots. The K-State graduate is one of the homegrown celebrities who co-host the annual Big Slick fundraiser for Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy.
He is passionate about Kansas City sports, the Chiefs and Royals, and his beloved K-State Wildcats.
He moved back to the Kansas City area after “Modern Family” ended and has been building a house in the area with his fiancee, Lindsay Schweitzer.
“Dexter: Resurrection” is set to launch in the summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.
