A Polo, Missouri man is facing charges in Jackson County after allegedly smashing several car windows in downtown Kansas City earlier this month.

Daniel Keil was charged Thursday with two counts of first-degree property damage, a felony, and two counts of second-degree property damage, a misdemeanor.

Keil, 41, is accused of breaking the windows of several cars parked in a lot in downtown Kansas City on Feb. 2, according to court documents. After damaging multiple cars, Keil fled north, according to court documents, and was arrested shortly afterward at Truman Road and Main Street.

Four of the people whose windows were smashed filed damage reports with Kansas City police, court documents read. Keil allegedly did at least $750 worth of damage to two of these cars, leading to the two first-degree charges.

KCPD detectives are still collecting damage reports from other people whose car windows were smashed in the same lot on Feb. 2, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. This could lead to additional charges against Keil.

““Property crime creates significant financial hardship and inconvenience for far too many in our community,” Jackson County prosecutor Melesa Johnson said in a statement Thursday. “We appreciate the victims who came forward and documented their damages, which was crucial in ensuring appropriate charges are filed.”

Since the start of 2025, Keil has been charged in Missouri courts with assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and a miscellaneous weapons violation, according to court records.

Keil’s first court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
