Man arrested following double homicide in Independence, police say
Police are investigating the killings of two men who were found dead in a home in western Independence Sunday afternoon.
Police said officers were called to the 9700 block of East Winner Road on a reported shooting around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. An initial report indicated people inside the home could be injured and that there was an armed person who refused to come out of the residence, the Independence Police Department said in a news release Monday.
SWAT officers entered the home and found the bodies of the two men.
Another man in the home was taken into custody and was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Additional details about the killings were not immediately available Monday afternoon.
The killings are Independence’s third and fourth homicides of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
