How many square feet can $300,000 get you in a Missouri home? See what new study says
How much square footage can $300,000 get you in a Missouri home? More than what you can get in most of the United States at that price, according to a new report.
Personal finance website GOBankingRates published a list, “How Much House Does $300K, $400K and $500K Buy You in Every State” on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The site ranked each state in the country on a housing cost-of-living index, which is based on the number of square feet you can purchase at the three different six-figure price points. The rankings placed Missouri at 11th, with a cost-of-living index of 78.6.
The median listing price for a home in Missouri is $176 per square foot, the study said. This means you can get a 1,704-square-foot home in the state for $300,000, according to GOBankingRates.
You can also get a 2,272-square-foot home for $400,000 and a 2,840-square-foot home for $500,000 in Missouri. However, housing prices and square footage depend on location.
For example, real estate website Zillow has 109 single-family homes listed for sale between $300,000 and $400,000, and many listings have more square feet listed than GOBankingRates’ study found. A three-bed, two-bathroom house on Ward Parkway in Kansas City is listed at $300,000 and has 2,057 square feet.
Zillow has 138 results for houses between $400,000 and $500,000, and 231 results are found for houses over $500,000, all with different amounts of square feet.
GOBankingRates says its sources for the median listing price per square foot in the U.S. comes from the Federal Reserve of St. Louis in November 2024. The personal finance website also used information from the Missouri Economic and Research Information Center to find the housing cost index for each state.
