Three Chiefs players and a beloved coach named among GQ’s 51 greatest Super Bowl fits
GQ has named the 51 best Super Bowl fits of all time and Hank Stram, the legendary Kansas City Chiefs coach known for his dapper sideline style, made the cut.
So did wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster, defensive end Charles Omenihu and tight end Travis Kelce.
Side note: Ahead of Sunday’s championship game between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, The Star and the Philadelphia Inquirer good-naturedly critiqued the fits of each team’s best-dressed players. Read it here.
And you thought the Super Bowl was just about football.
For players and fans, with tens of millions of people watching around the world, “it behooves one to not dress like a schmuck on game day,” GQ writes.
“In that sense the Super Bowl is…well, it’s the Super Bowl of getting off fits. Over the years, people have tended to dress accordingly whether they’re doing a tunnel walk or not.
“We’re sure by the time Super Bowl LIV comes and goes this Sunday, there’ll be more than a few looks that make their way to your 2025 inspiration board.”
GQ spotlighted players and coaches — Joe Namath, Tom Landry, Odell Beckham Jr. — and Super Bowl entertainers, including Prince, Post Malone and Whitney Houston.
Of Houston, who sang the National Anthem in 1991 in the now iconic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” tracksuit, GQ wrote: “One of the greatest tracksuits of all time.”
Hmmm. We knew those white tracksuits the players are wearing this year in New Orleans reminded us of something.
The magazine placed Stram, Chiefs head coach from 1960 to 1974, on the list with an iconic picture of him being carried through the crowd after the team’s first Super Bowl win in 1970.
“A cardigan under a blazer is always a natty move,” GQ notes of Stram’s familiar fit.
The Washington Post once referred to Stram as a “spiffy little dude.” At one time, The New York Times noted he had a four-closet wardrobe of 25 to 30 suits, 15 sports jackets, 22 pairs of shoes and many red vests, his signature piece.
When Stram died in 2005 from complications of diabetes, the farewells mentioned his clothing.
Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster made GQ’s list on the merits of the Thom Browne skirt he wore to the Super Bowl in 2023, the last time the Chiefs played the Eagles for the championship.
“You want all eyes on you? You wear Thom Browne. Simple as that,” notes GQ.
GQ also liked two Chiefs fits from last year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
“Big chains, perfect pants, royal blue designer bag, and a lace tank that leaves little to the imagination? Yeah, this all-black ensemble rules,” the mag wrote of defensive end Charles Omenihu’s look.
GQ called Kelce “a bit of a high-risk, high-reward dresser,” but liked the black sequined custom suit by Amiri he wore to last year’s game.
“Count this pre-game fit from 2024 as one of his bigger sartorial wins,” the mag declared.
