Don’t expect Paul Rudd at Chiefs-Bills game in KC. He’s with a killer snake in Australia
You just know that if he could, superfan Paul Rudd would be at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday cheering on the Chiefs to a third consecutive Super Bowl.
Rudd took his teenage son, Jack, to the last two Super Bowl games — won each year by the Chiefs.
But sometimes work gets in the way, and so it has this year for Rudd.
The “Ant-Man” star is in Australia with Jack Black filming a comedic new version of the 1997 Jennifer Lopez horror movie, “Anaconda.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”) and Steve Zahn (“Silo”) have now joined the cast.
Over the weekend Rudd was photographed by paparazzi on a beach in Gold Coast, Australia, taking what is likely a much needed break from killer snakes. Ick.
Rudd’s fans rejoiced at seeing People magazine’s 2021 Sexiest Man Alive catching some direct sun.
Rudd, 55, was born in New Jersey but from the age of 10 grew up in Overland Park, where he graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School and then went to the University of Kansas.
A fan of both the Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals, he co-hosts the city’s biggest celebrity fundraiser, Big Slick, every year with other stars who grew up around here, including Eric Stonestreet and Jason Sudeikis.
Expect to see Rudd in two movies this year.
He stars with Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) in the dark comedy horror film “Death of a Unicorn,” scheduled to hit theaters March 28 after it’s shown at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin.
Rudd and Ortega are a father and daughter who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn with their car on their way to a retreat, after which Rudd’s rich boss tries to exploit the unicorn’s miracle powers.
A cure for cancer? The path to immortality? (Hasn’t the ageless Rudd already discovered the latter?)
The new “Anaconda” is set for release on Christmas Day. Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight starred in the original movie, which “followed a National Geographic film crew hunting for the world’s largest and deadliest snake, only to find the tables turned,” writes The Hollywood Reporter.
“The new story, according to sources, involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rain forest, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.”
Black plays a wedding videographer directing the movie. Rudd’s character is an actor fresh out of dreams who once played a cop on TV.
Last month Sony Pictures released a YouTube video showing Rudd and Black teasing the film.
Black promised “there’s going to be a big (freaking) snake and it’s gonna rip!”
“You wanna get scared?” Rudd asked fans. “You wanna laugh? You wanna celebrate with your friends? Or maybe you’re alone and sad and have nobody but just wanna forget about that. It’s coming out on Christmas in 2025.”
This year’s Big Slick Celebrity Weekend in Kansas City, by the way — where Rudd’s presence is guaranteed barring any unfortunate anaconda accidents — is set for May 30-31.
The snake isn’t real, right?
