Pedestrian in crosswalk killed in hit-and-run crash in Kansas City. Driver fled scene

Kansas City police are investigating a hit and run crash that killed a pedestrian Monday night.

Officers responded to a reported crash just before 11 p.m. to the intersection of East Truman Road and Bennington Avenue.

According to a crash report summary, a preliminary investigation showed a pedestrian was crossing East Truman Road on the crosswalk from the north to the south when an unknown vehicle traveling east on Truman struck the pedestrian.

The unknown vehicle left the scene, said Phil DiMartino, a spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department.

A man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victim.

According to DiMartino, the crash is Kansas City’s 4th traffic fatality of 2025.
