Trash and recycling pickups in some municipalities around the Kansas City metro area were delayed again Wednesday, Jan. 8, as crews continue to clear snow and ice from the roads.

Kansas City and Kansas City, Kansas, are among the cities where collection remained on hold Wednesday. Both cities had previously canceled pickup Monday and Tuesday following the blizzard.

Here are the cities where trash and recycling collection is still on hold.

Kansas City: “Due to extreme temperatures and the need for drivers to focus on treating roads, trash and recycling services will be canceled on Tuesday, January 7, Wednesday, January 8, and Thursday, January 9,” the city wrote on its website.

“Collections between Monday, January 13 and Thursday, January 16 will be allowed to have two extra bags. There will be extra bags collected Friday, January 10 for those who did not have their trash picked up Friday, January 3.”

Kansas City, Kansas: “Waste Management will NOT collect trash and recycling tomorrow (Wednesday) but will resume full service on Thursday,” the city’s unified government wrote on Facebook on Tuesday evening. “If you had a Monday-Wednesday pickup, please hold your trash until next week’s pickup.”

Other KC area cities’ trash pickup

Trash and recycling pickup resumed Wednesday in Olathe, Prairie Village and Liberty, according to the most recent updates on each city government’s Facebook page. In Olathe, collection is delayed by one day this week.

Collection resumed Tuesday in communities that contract with GFL, including Mission, Roeland Park, Belton and elsewhere.

Residents of cities like Overland Park, Lee’s Summit and Independence get their trash and recycling collected by private contractors. Reach out to your waste collection company to see how the service for your address is affected.
