The woman found dead outside North Kansas City Hospital in the aftermath of this weekend’s blizzard was a patient at the hospital prior to her death, city officials confirmed Tuesday.

The patient has been identified by authorities as Loria Annette Fells, 63, of Kansas City.

North Kansas City police and fire personnel responded around 9:45 a.m. Monday to a healthcare building on the NKC Hospital campus, according to deputy city administrator Kim Nakahodo. Fells was discovered unresponsive outside.

Fells had been taken to North Kansas City Hospital by North Kansas City firefighters around 12:23 p.m. Sunday, according to Nakahodo. When she was found Monday, she did not have any significant bodily trauma.

The North Kansas City police department is still investigating the circumstances that led to Fells’ death. That death investigation is ongoing.

When her body was discovered Monday, temperatures in Kansas City were hovering around 12 degrees, with a 1 degree windchill.
