A woman was found dead near North Kansas City Hospital on Monday morning, according to police.

North Kansas City police officers responded around 9:45 a.m. to 2700 Clay Edwards Drive, a health care complex on the North Kansas City Hospital campus with a Quest Diagnostics office, a Meritas Health primary care office, a dentist’s office and a podiatrist’s office. Upon arrival, officers discovered an older woman unresponsive outside the building, according to North Kansas City deputy city administrator Kim Nakahodo.

The woman, who investigators believe was in her 60s, has not been publicly identified. Investigators did not find any signs of bodily trauma, Nakahodo said.

The North Kansas City Police Department is currently investigating the woman’s death, the exact cause of which is not currently known.

All Meritas Health locations, including the primary care office outside which the woman died, were closed Monday due to inclement weather.

When the woman’s body was discovered this morning, temperatures in Kansas City were hovering around 12 degrees, with a 1 degree wind chill, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures dropped as low as 9 degrees Sunday night and Monday morning, with a wind chill of minus 5 degrees around 7 a.m.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
