Update: The deceased has been identified as Brandi L. Crout, 48.

The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the death of a woman who was found with a gunshot wound on Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 3500 block of Stadium Drive around 4:45 p.m., in the Leeds neighborhood of Kansas City, according to KCPD spokesperson Sgt. Phil DiMartino.

Several people directed officers to a vehicle with a woman inside, who appeared to have been shot, according to DiMartino. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kansas City Police Department has classified the potential shooting as a death investigation, not a homicide, according to DiMartino. The deceased woman has not been publicly identified, and KCPD had not identified a suspect as of Thursday night.

If ruled a homicide, Thursday’s death will be the second homicide reported in Kansas City this year.
