One dead after Kansas police chase ends in crash: Report
A man died in a single-vehicle crash on a Wyandotte County highway Thursday afternoon after he lost control of his truck during a police chase and ran off the road.
The fatal crash took place around 5:05 p.m. on I-70, near the exit to the southbound lanes of I-635, according to a crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol. Police were pursuing Brian Trober, 31, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle while exiting the highway, according to the report.
The Chevrolet swerved into a ditch and flipped over the guardrail fencing along I-70, according to the report. The car then tumbled down an embankment and came to a stop on the north side of Kaw Road, where emergency medical responders declared Trober dead.
One passenger, a 21-year-old man, was taken to a hospital, where he continues to recover from serious injuries.
Trober was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report. It is not known whether the passenger was wearing a seat belt.
