A Kansas City man has been charged for his role in a car crash that killed a woman in June.

Jordan Asher, 25, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the June 25 crash. Charges against Asher also allege that he was driving while intoxicated.

The crash took place around 5:10 p.m. near East 43rd Street and Virginia Avenue in the South Hyde Park neighborhood of Kansas City. Asher was speeding on East 43rd Street in a silver Honda Pilot when his car went airborne as he crossed Virginia Avenue, according to police and court documents.

The Pilot allegedly struck a black Mitsubishi head-on as it landed, killing the driver. Asher then hit two wooden utility poles, splitting one, before the Pilot landed on its roof around East 43rd Street and The Paseo.

Asher later told police detectives that he had run through a stop sign and rolled down a hill, and that this was when he lost control of the car, according to court documents. Asher also allegedly told police that he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day.

The dead woman has not been publicly identified.

A passenger in Asher’s car survived the crash but had serious injuries, including fractures to the leg, foot, arm, wrist and ribs, according to court documents. Neither Asher nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt.

Asher is being held on $25,000 bond. His next court date has not yet been set.
