This Kansas City ice rink is in the top five in the United States, new poll shows
A long-running winter tradition in Kansas City was voted one of the best in the United States by USA Today readers.
The Crown Center Ice Terrace, the public skating rink that’s been open for over 50 years, was named the fifth best ice skating rink nationwide after readers voted for their favorite. A panel of judges selected the options for ice skating rinks before opening the final ranking to a fan vote.
Crown Center Ice Terrace was recently featured in the Hallmark movie “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” alongside several other KC area landmarks. The shopping district also has the first-ever Hallmark Christmas Experience open through Sunday, Dec. 22; the Mayor’s Christmas Tree, which stands over 100 feet tall; and other holiday activities, like meeting Santa Claus.
The skating rink is scheduled to be open through March 9 at Crown Center Square, 2425 Grand Blvd. Adults and children 4 and older cost $9 per person; children under 4 are free with a paid admission. Skate rental is $6.
It’s open from:
- 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday until Jan. 31.
- 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday from Feb. 1 to March 9.
“Kansas City springs to life each winter with the return of the Crown Center Ice Terrace, an incredible outdoor ice-skating venue,” USA Today said. “Guests can skate the day away with no time limit, and the on-site concession stand is in place for any visitors in need of refreshments.”

- No. 8: Skating by the Sea at Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, California
- No. 9: Ice on Main in Greenville, South Carolina
- No. 10: Riverside Crossing Park Ice Skating Rink in Dublin, Ohio
