A lottery ticket bought at a Kansas City gas station in November made one person $100,000 richer — but he initially had no idea.

The winner purchased several “20X Crossword” Scratchers tickets at QuikTrip, located at 6551 E. Front St. He knew he won a prize large enough that he had to claim it at a Missouri Lottery office, but didn’t know the amount until he went in and they told him.

“I couldn’t believe it,” the winner told the Missouri Lottery. “I thought I won $10,000 and didn’t know I actually won $100,000 until they told me.”

The winner said he plans to use the prize money to start a small business.

The Missouri Lottery said in a statement that players of the “20X Crossword” Scratchers game have won over $11.9 million in prizes since the $5 game was released in April. More than $5.1 million remain in unclaimed prizes, including two additional $100,000 prizes, according to the lottery.
