One dead, two injured after teen’s car crossed lanes and rolled Saturday night
One teen is dead and two others are injured after their vehicle overturned in Archie, Missouri, on Saturday night.
A crash was reported just before 9:30 p.m. involving a 17-year-old driver in a 2015 Kia K900. The vehicle was eastbound on Missouri Route B, about five miles outside Archie in southern Cass County, when it crossed the center line and overturned, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The driver and an 18-year-old passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Emergency crews arrived and took the passenger to Cass Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead at 10:42 p.m.
The driver was taken by an ambulance helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, where they were listed in serious condition.
A second passenger was driven in a private vehicle to Belton Regional Medical Center, treated for minor injuries and was home recovering Sunday, according to authorities. The driver and the deceased passenger were not wearing seat belts.
The teens were students at Archie R-V School district, whose football team had just won its second straight state championship that day. The names of the students have not yet been released. It is not known whether any of them played on the school’s football team.
Archie R-V School District Superintendent Michelle Wityk said in a statement posted on the district website that the victims of the crash were students from the district.
“We are saddened to share the news of a tragedy that occurred last night,” Wityk said.
Wityk said the community group You Matter Archie made a counselor available at the local community center earlier Sunday. Details on funeral arrangements will be released once finalized, she said.
