More restaurants have opened up around Kansas City recently, adding new flavors to the scene. If you’re looking to try something new, a recent Yelp list has suggestions on what’s hot around the metro.

Yelp’s hot and new ranking for Kansas City lists the top newly opened restaurants based on user reviews. According to the rankings as of Wednesday, Dec. 4, these restaurants ranging from Cajun cuisine to tacos are the top five in Kansas City.

Whether you are visiting for the holidays or want to branch out from your favorite spots, check out these five new restaurants in the Kansas City area, recommended by Yelp.

Swifts Cajun Cuisine

  • Where: 3415 Main St.
  • Yelp rating: 4.9/5 stars with eight reviews

Owners Rich and Sheila Swift opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant for Swifts Cajun Cuisine in late August after previously selling their signature Cajun fried rice from their house and then a food truck.

Customers can also get Cajun pasta, Cajun seafood boil, shrimp and grits, fried catfish, king crab and snow crab.

Incline on 9th

  • Where: 1414 W. 9th St.
  • Yelp rating: 4.8/5 stars with four reviews

Incline on 9th opened in September and is a bar and restaurant operated by P.J. Purtle, who is a partner with Krown Concepts, a local group that also owns John’s Big Deck and The Levee.

The menu includes appetizers like birria nachos, specialties like paprika chicken and sandwiches like a Sloppy Ralph (beef, pork belly, sauce and onion straws on toasted brioche).

Conchita Tacos

  • Where: 1922 Baltimore Ave.

Chris Seferyn and Chad Troutwine joined forces to bring Conchita Tacos in August.

The menu includes street tacos (al pastor, baja fish, carne asada, vegan) and taco fries from the crew behind Tacos Valentina.

The building is split in half with Kon Tiki, a Polynesian-inspired cocktail lounge by the same owners.

Larks Entertainment

  • Where: 1527 W. Ninth St.

A shuffleboard-themed bar, Larks Entertainment opened in September and describes itself as an “eatertainment venue, cocktail bar, and a chef-inspired restaurant where shuffleboard is king and nostalgic games live alongside state-of-the-art fun for all ages.”

They serve smash burgers, flatbreads, quesadillas and more.

Cortadito

  • Where: 400 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas
  • Yelp rating: 5/5 stars with six reviews

Cortadito is a Cuban restaurant and coffee shop ran by Nubia Gomez and her husband, Karell Martinez, who is a Cuban refugee who came to the United States 17 years ago.

The name comes from a Cuban drink made with coffee grounds, an espresso shot and a splash of frothed milk. They also serve sandwiches like the Pan con Bistec, made with steak with sauteed onions, lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise.
