One person died and another was hospitalized after a crash in north Kansas City Wednesday.

Officers responded around 12:22 a.m. to a reported one-vehicle collision on Missouri 210 Highway near North Kimball Drive. The driver of a blue Suzuki Reno was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating what caused the crash. The blue Suzuki Reno was traveling east on MO 210 Highway when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the road and struck a concrete traffic signal pole, according to a Kansas City Police Department incident report.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victim.

The death is Kansas City’s 77th traffic fatality this year, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for KCPD.
