A woman died at a hospital this week, three days after she was hit by a passenger bus in a downtown Kansas City crosswalk, police said.

The woman was walking north on a marked crosswalk on 6th Street around 1 p.m. when a passenger bus turning left from Wyandotte Street ran her over, according to an Kansas City Police Department incident report.

Police were notified by medical staff that the woman had died from her injuries just before 4:30 p.m. Monday, said KCPD spokesman Sgt. Phil DiMartino.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victim.

Officers located the passenger bus later on Saturday, and its driver has been cooperating with the investigation, DiMartino said. As of Tuesday afternoon, charges had not yet been filed in connection with the crash.

The death is Kansas City’s 76th traffic fatality of 2024, DiMartino said. At this time last year, the city had recorded 80 traffic fatalities.
