Cold case detectives arrest KCK man accused in 2016 rape of 91-year-old woman

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department arrested a suspect who now faces charges in a 2016 cold case in which a 91 year-old woman was raped in her home.

Kansas City, Kansas police arrested a man Friday in connection with a 2016 cold case involving the rape of a 91-year-old woman.

Kyle Blake States, 26, of Kansas City, Kansas, is charged with rape in the cold case, police said in a news release Friday. States would have been 18 at the time of the alleged crime.

Cold Case detectives and U.S. Marshals attempted to serve the warrant for his arrest at his residence in the 5300 block of Custer Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, States barricaded himself in the home, police said in a news release.

Police believed States was armed, so they called the KCKPD Special Operations Unit to the scene. Around 9:15 a.m., States came out of his home and was taken into custody.

No other information about the case was immediately available Friday.
