Update: The deceased have been identified as Amber Rainey, 36, who was driving the Mitsubishi, and Christa R. Brodigan, 33, who was driving the Ford.

The drivers of two vehicles are dead, and several passengers are injured, after a head-on collision in Kansas City’s Northland on Sunday.

At about 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a fatal crash near Northeast 42nd Street and Parvin Road. Police said an early investigation showed a silver Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling eastbound on Parvin Road at a high rate of speed.

For unknown reasons, officers said the Mitsubishi crossed the double yellow lines, colliding head-on with a blue Ford Transit van that was traveling westbound on the road.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, who officers said was not wearing a seat belt, was declared dead at the scene. Two juvenile passengers were transported to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Ford was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Adult and juvenile passengers of that vehicle were both transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Passengers of both vehicles are all in stable condition, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.
