A juvenile has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of popular Kansas City chef and restaurant owner Shaun Brady.

Brady, 44, was fatally shot Wednesday night in the back parking lot of Brady & Fox, the Irish restaurant he co-owned with business partner Graham Farris.

Brady had been taking out the trash when he became involved in a fatal confrontation with multiple juveniles around a vehicle, Kansas City police said.

Two teenage boys, who aren’t being identified because they are juveniles, were arrested within an hour of Brady’s death.

One was charged with second-degree murder Thursday in Jackson County family court, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The juvenile was also charged with felony attempted theft of a motor vehicle, as well as armed criminal action.

A mandatory hearing will be held to decide whether he will be tried as an adult.

No charges have been announced against the second juvenile as of Thursday evening.

As Brady’s family, friends and community grieve, Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker joined Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas in sharing condolences, calling Brady’s death a “senseless loss” in a statement Thursday.

“His death is a loss to us and to the surrounding community,” Peters Baker wrote. “Shaun was the kind of guy who would always jump in to help you — and “you” meant anyone needing help,”

Brady is survived by his wife, Kate, and two children.
