A motorcyclist died at the hospital after being injured in a crash with a car over the weekend in Kansas City’s Northland, a police spokesman said.

The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Northwest Barry Road and the ramp from northbound U.S. 169 highway, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department.

The motorcyclist was riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Barry Road at high rates of speed. Meanwhile, the driver of a black Ford Fusion was stopped at a red traffic signal on the ramp from U.S. 169.

When the light turned green, the driver of the Ford Fusion began to enter the intersection. Becchina said the motorcyclist failed to stop at the red light and crashed into the left side of the car.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle over the top of the Ford Fusion, Becchina said.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he died a few hours later from his injuries, Becchina said.

The driver and a passenger in the Ford Fusion were not injured.
