Two drivers died following a head-on crash in Jackson County Sunday night.

Troopers responded 8:30 p.m. to a crash on westbound Interstate 70 near Grain Valley, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A 2013 Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on the highway when it ran off the left side of the road and crossed the median into the westbound lanes.

The Hyundai struck a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse head on.

The driver of the Hyundai, 20-year-old Connor J. Souther, and 56-year-old Garret D. Brumley, the Chevrolet driver, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Five passengers in the Chevrolet had injuries ranging from minor to serious, the highway patrol said.
