Police took a man into custody following a domestic assault that injured a girl and boy early Tuesday in a Kansas City home.

Officers responded to a domestic assault around 1:02 a.m. in the 3800 block of Indiana Avenue, where they heard a disturbance inside a home, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

When police entered, they found a boy under the age of 10 with a laceration wound and a girl under age 15 who had been stabbed.

A man was taken into custody at the scene and placed on a 24-hour investigative hold for further questioning.

The boy and girl were taken to a hospital for treatment. The girl is in critical condition, and the boy is stable, police said.

Police are investigating the incident.
