A captain that served for three decades in the Lee’s Summit Fire Department has died, the department announced Saturday.

Gene Martin, 55, served as a firefighter and captain in Lee’s Summit for the past 30 years. In an announcement on Saturday, the fire department said Martin’s unwavering commitment and service left a mark in the community.

“Captain Martin exemplified the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication,” the fire department said in a news release. “His contributions have been invaluable, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”

The fire department said Martin’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide them as they move forward.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Captain Martin’s family, friends, and fire department family.”

The fire department said it will share details about memorial services for Martin when they are available.
