Woman dies one week after crash on Troost pinned her vehicle to utility pole

One person died a week after she was injured in a crash near 83rd Terrace and Troost Avenue, police said.

Officers responded around 7:49 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision June 7. A dark blue Chevy Silverado was speeding north on Troost when a white Honda turned onto Troost from 85th Street.

The Chevy swerved around the Honda, and locked up his brakes as he drove into oncoming traffic on southbound Troost, police said.

At 83rd Terrace, a GMC Terrain was turning onto southbound Troost. The Chevy struck the GMC on the driver side and pushed the vehicle into a metal utility pole.

The Chevy then flipped over onto its right side. The driver of the GMC was transported to a hospital by ambulance with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevy was taken by ambulance to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the GMC was pronounced dead by doctors at 11:51 p.m. June 14, said Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman with Kansas City Police. The name and age of the victim has not been released.

The death marks Kansas City’s 48th traffic fatality of 2024. At this time last year, there were 35 traffic fatalities recorded.
