If Taylor Swift shows at Chiefs Super Bowl parade, KC officials are ready for it
Pop icon Taylor Swift spent much of the season cheering on the Chiefs — so the question now on many Kansas City minds is whether there be a Swift sighting at the parade to celebrate their Super Bowl victory?
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said in a press conference Monday afternoon that fans should “stay tuned” to see if Swift would make an appearance during Wednesday’s parade and victory rally.
While wearing a red and yellow friendship bracelet, Lucas said he could not comment on Taylor Swift’s whereabouts on parade day, but KCPD Chief Stacey Graves said that officers are absolutely prepared for a change in security, including over 600 Kansas City police officers, plus 250 officers from around 34 other law enforcement agencies as well as federal partners.
“Stay tuned. It’s a reason to watch the parade on Wednesday and for everybody to come on out,” Lucas said.
Kansas City, Kansas City Sports Commission and the Kansas City Chiefs will hold the Chiefs Kingdom Champions Parade and victory rally beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday in downtown at 6th Street and Grand Avenue.
‘Swiftonomics’
Swift attended 13 Chiefs games after she started dating tight end Travis Kelce last summer and went viral several times for wearing a mix of vintage and locally sourced Chiefs gear.
“We’ve just caught lightning in a bottle,” said Tracey Lewis, president and CEO of the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City. “I think that’s what a lot of business leaders talk about in Kansas City.”
At the Dec. 10 Chiefs game, Swift wore a vintage sweatshirt from Chris Harrington’s boutique, Westside Storey. He was starstruck, humbled. But he also realized he’d struck gold. “We’ve had orders from all over the country — all over the world,” Harrington said.
Sales were up 1,000% in the days that followed, Harrington said.
“Her having a presence here is exciting,” he said. “It’s unbelievable, the platform she’s given Kansas City.”
Could Taylor Swift show?
Swift finished the Tokyo leg of her tour in time to make it for the Super Bowl, and performs next in Melbourne, Australia. Her show is on Friday at 6:20 p.m. Melbourne time, which is 1:20 a.m. Central Time. Melbourne is 17-hours ahead of Kansas City.
A flight in Taylor Swift’s private jet from Kansas City to Melbourne would take just over 17 hours, which includes a 1.5-hour fuel stop, according to private plane charter JetFinder. This means Taylor Swift would need to leave Kansas City by 8 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, to arrive at the Melbourne airport by the scheduled start time.
Swift has not commented on her plans.
Since the Kansas City Super Bowl parade takes place on Feb. 14, she could theoretically spend Valentine’s Day at the parade with Travis Kelce and then make it to her Melbourne show on time, though it would be tight.
