1 dead, 2 injured in head-on crash in Kansas City, Kansas, according to police
One person was killed and two were taken to the hospital with injuries following a crash late Tuesday afternoon in Kansas City, Kansas, according to police.
Kansas City Kansas Police were dispatched at 5:34 p.m. to the 400 block of North 18th Street for a reported collision with injuries, officer T.J. Tomasic, of KCKPD, said in a statement. Several wrecked vehicles were located by responding officers, Tomasic said.
Early findings of the police investigation indicated a driver had been headed south on 18th Street at high speed and tried to pass another vehicle. During the attempted pass, the driver collided head-on with another vehicle headed in the opposite direction.
The driver of the vehicle that attempted to pass was declared dead at the scene, Tomasic said, and a passenger was taken away in an ambulance, last listed in critical condition.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the initial crash suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.
Further details of those involved in the crash were not immediately disclosed by police.
Police closed 18th Street to vehicular traffic between Barnett Avenue and Grandview Boulevard.
KCKPD’s traffic division continued to investigate on Tuesday night. Police were asking anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
