Suspected suicide of inmate at Platte County jail under investigation: Sheriff’s Office

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate in the jail Thursday as a suspected suicide.

Staff at the Platte County Detention Center discovered an inmate who was unresponsive in a housing unit at around 3:50 p.m., the sheriff’s department said in a Friday news release. Medical aid was provided. The inmate was later declared dead.

Details of the inmate’s identity were not released. A family notification had yet to be made, the sheriff’s office said.

Preliminary findings by detectives indicated suicide, according to the sheriff’s office.
