She wasn’t ready for it: Taylor Swift shocks worker with $100 tip at Chiefs-Bills game
Somewhere along the line, Jerris Rainey must have put some good out into the universe because karma visited her big-time at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, and she was shocked by who delivered it — Taylor Swift.
Rainey is a ticket taker at the stadium where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills Sunday in the Divisional playoff game. Swift watched the game from a suite and cheered on her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and his teammates.
Rainey, a self-described Swift fan, told WKBW in Buffalo that she just wanted to lay eyes on Swift, but much more happened.
She said she was getting ready to leave the stadium at the same time Swift’s entourage was heading out.
Rainey said it was “like a whole SWAT team situation” of security and sheriff’s deputies escorting Swift. So Rainey waited around to see if she could catch a glimpse of the star.
Swift saw her, stopped “and she asked me if I worked at the stadium. I said yes,” Rainey said. “And she asked if she could give me a tip. And she gave me $100 and then she asked if I wanted to take a picture with her and I said yes.”
Rainey said Swift made her security detail wait while they took the picture.
This is the second report of Swift generously tipping stadium staff on her way to becoming a regular at Chiefs games, both at home and on the road.
Social media applauded when a photo emerged of her handing out $100 bills to some food runners at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts last month, where she watched the Chiefs beat the New England Patriots.
That followed reports from last summer that she gave large bonuses to employees working on her massive Eras Tour, giving the truck drivers hauling the equipment $100,000 bonuses, totaling about $5 million.
She also reportedly gave an unknown amount of bonuses to her dancers, the band, caterers and others who bring the tour to life. She performed two back-to-back shows at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in early July, where her love story with Kelce began.
According to WKBW, Rainey takes tickets in Highmark Stadium’s Toyota Club. It’s one of several indoor clubs accessible to fans in the suites.
Swift watched the game from a suite with assorted friends and family, including Kelce’s brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Kylie Kelce.
“She’s a sweetie pie. Very down to earth,” Rainey told the Buffalo station.
