Brittany Mahomes to make rare TV appearance on football fan Kelly Clarkson’s show
Brittany Mahomes, who rarely gives interviews, will appear on an episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” scheduled to air on Friday.
The talk show announced Mahomes’ appearance in an Instagram post. Clarkson’s other guests that day will be two Brits — actor Tom Hollander and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.
The show didn’t announce a topic of conversation for Clarkson and Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. That’s anyone’s guess.
But the best guess is Taylor Swift, the NFL wife’s new BFF. The “Blank Space” singer has dated Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce for several months and is now a regular at games, usually sitting with Mahomes in a suite as they cheer on their partners.
The NFL WAGs have dined and partied together in New York, Los Angeles and Kansas City. The two couples rang in the new year together in Kansas City. Most recently, Mahomes and Swift dined out with friends in New York on Tuesday night.
It will be interesting to see what Clarkson says about Swift’s attendance at games, if she brings it up at all. She’s grumbled about it in the past.
Clarkson is a football fan. Last year, the Texas-born singer was the first woman to ever host the NFL Honors ceremony, which she did while wearing a custom gown inspired by her lifelong love of the Dallas Cowboys.
Patrick Mahomes won the prestigious Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award that night but had to accept in a prerecorded message because the team was preparing for the Super Bowl just days later.
In October, when Clarkson had Bowen Yang from “Saturday Night Live” on her show, they talked about Kelce and Swift making a surprise appearance on “SNL,” which Clarkson called “hilarious.”
But she was less amused by the coverage Swift’s attendance at Chiefs game was getting, even though Swift has no say in where the cameras are pointing.
“It’s not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now. It’s like you’re watching ‘Housewives’ while you’re watching,” she said. “They’re just talking about gossip things and you’re like, ‘So what about the play?’ But they’re taking over.”
Mahomes and Clarkson could certainly talk soccer. Mahomes is co-owner of the KC Current women’s soccer team.
Or maybe the two moms will chat about the Mahomes children, Sterling Skye and Bronze, who make nearly daily appearances on their mom’s Instagram Stories.
Though Mahomes rarely speaks to the media without her husband by her side, she’s an open book on social media. The couple made the rounds last summer when the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback” came out, featuring the Chiefs star.
They did an interview with “CBS Mornings.”
They also filmed an episode of “The Couples Quiz” for GQ in which we learned that Patrick will never go skydiving and Brittany’s dream vacation spot is the Maldives.
In Kansas City, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” airs at 3 p.m. weekdays on KMBC.
