The rider of a “pocket rocket” mini motorbike suffered critical injuries when the driver of a pickup truck crashed into her on Kansas City’s East Side, a police spokesman said.

The rider was traveling in the westbound lanes of Truman Road about 7:45 p.m. Sunday when the driver in a silver Chevrolet pickup truck struck her on the bridge over Manchester Trafficway in the Blue Valley Industrial area, said Capt. Corey Carlisle with the Kansas City Police Department.

The rider, who was not wearing a helmet was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, he said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that motorbike didn’t have reflectors and lights. The driver, who was traveling in the same lane, told police that he did not see the rider and hit her with the front of his truck, Carlisle said.

The driver and passenger in the truck were not injured in the collision.
