Summer-like weather kicks off a week that will see showers, thunderstorms and possibly the first frost of the season in the Kansas City area, according to the National Weather Service.

The metro area will once again flirt with record heat on Monday, as temperatures are expected to climb into the low 90s on Monday. The record high for this date is 95 degrees, set in 2006.

On Sunday afternoon, temperatures reached 91 degrees, making it the third hottest Oct. 1 in Kansas City’s history. The hottest Oct. 1 was 94 degrees, also set in 2006.

Sunday’s heat also was tied for the 19th warmest October day in the metro’s 136 years of weather history, the weather service said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Temperatures typically are in the lower 70s this time of year in Kansas City.

Well above normal temperatures are expected to continue through Tuesday, although conditions are expected to be a bit cooler with temps in the mid-80s.

Skies are expected to become increasingly cloudy throughout the day, with the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms developing overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. No severe weather is expected, the weather service said.

Temperatures will drop closer to normal, reaching the upper 70s on Wednesday and mid-70s on Thursday. Overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-60s on Wednesday and the upper 50s on Thursday.

A strong cold front is expected to bring chilly weather for Friday and Saturday, with the temperatures climbing to the low to mid-60s during the day and falling into the 40s and 50s overnight. Some areas could see temperatures plummet into the 30s.

“A first frost may be possible for some on Saturday morning!” the weather service said.

Temperatures are expected to return to normal on Sunday.
