One dead, another injured after car leaves roadway and hits tree in Kansas City
One person died and another was injured following a one-vehicle crash early Monday in Kansas City.
Police responded around 1:12 a.m. to the crash in the area of 58th Street and Ward Parkway, said Capt. Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
A silver Volkswagen Passat was traveling southbound on Ward Parkway at a high speed.
Just south of 58th, the car left the roadway, drove over a curb and struck a tree.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger is in critical condition.
The incident was the 64th road fatality this year, according to data tracked by police. There were 62 fatalities at this time last year.
