A driver and passenger in Kansas City have been left with life-threatening injuries in an early Saturday morning rollover crash.

Just before 2:20 a.m., officers responded to Highway 71 and Bannister Road, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department. Witnesses told police that a black Ford had been speeding and weaving across the roadway, almost striking another vehicle at one point.

Then, “for unknown reasons,” police said, the Ford veered off the highway, down the embankment and flipped “at least once.”

Police are investigating whether impairment was a factor in the crash.
