Kansas City police say a semi-truck struck and killed a pedestrian who was running between lanes early Saturday morning.

The driver of the green Mack semi was “unable to avoid striking the pedestrian” and stayed on scene to cooperate with the investigation, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department.

Around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to Interstate 435, north of 63rd Street Trafficway. Investigators determined that, as the semi was rounding the curve of the highway, it hit the pedestrian, who was lying in the road.

Police say the driver stopped immediately after striking the victim, who has not been identified by police.
