Two people were injured, one critically, after a car struck a tree in Kansas City’s Northland early Saturday morning.

Police believe the driver of the car that caused the accident may have been “impaired,” according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department.

Around 2:40 a.m., officers responded to an accident on N. Ambassador Drive and N.W. Skyview Avenue.

There, officers determined that a gray BMW had been speeding down Ambassador Drive. When the road curved, the vehicle veered off and into a tree, and the car caught fire.

A passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Both the driver and passenger were transported to a nearby hospital. The driver is in stable condition, and the passenger is in critical condition.

Kansas City police are continuing to investigate the crash.
