Other local municipalities have opened similar disposal sites or have made other arrangements to help homeowners clear their yards of debris.

All remaining power outages caused by the storm that roared through the Kansas City area Friday are expected to be resolved Tuesday, according to Evergy.

Already, officials have restored more than 95% of the outages since strong winds knocked down power lines and trees and left around 186,000 customers without power, the largest the company has dealt with in its 5-year history.

As of about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Evergy said about 1,200 customers remained without power in the aftermath of Friday’s storm.

Crews are working in 16-hour shifts to restore 80% of those remaining outages, and officials are making plans to handle the rest.

Storms Sunday slowed down some of the repairs, and the potential for severe weather Tuesday could cause further delays. Crews will continue to work as long as conditions are safe to restore power as soon as possible, according to Evergy.
