Kansas City police are determining whether impairment was a factor in a rollover crash that killed one person and injured two others just before midnight Friday.

A black Chevrolet Equinox, carrying five passengers and one driver, was traveling on Ward Parkway near Brush Creek when it failed to navigate a curve in the road.

The Chevrolet traveled off the roadway and down an embankment, “overturning and rolling several times,” according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department.

One passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers were taken to the hospital but are in stable condition, police say.

The remaining passengers and driver were uninjured.

The department says it’s continuing to investigate the crash.
