Let the games begin? Missouri AG warns of ticket scams ahead of Taylor Swift’s KC shows
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey warned Taylor Swift fans to watch for ticket scams ahead of the singer’s upcoming Eras Tour performances in Kansas City.
Bailey’s office promised to pursue anyone who sells fraudulent tickets to Swift’s July 7 and 8 stops at Arrowhead Stadium.
“I want to educate Missourians on potential ticket scams during the summer concert season, which is when scammers often prey on innocent consumers,” Bailey wrote in a statement. “With Taylor Swift and other music superstars making stops in Missouri, we want to ensure that consumers have the right tools at their disposal, which includes the Attorney General’s Office.”
The highly anticipated tour, which features songs from all 10 of Swift’s albums, sold out stadiums across the country and caused major technical issues and outages for Ticketmaster users.
Bailey said fans in other states have lost thousands of dollars to Swift ticket scams.
Bailey encouraged ticket buyers to know the vendor they’re buying from is trusted before providing financial information and to research the seller on either the attorney general or Better Business Bureau’s website for past complaints.
If purchasing tickets online, buyers should use a credit card, which will offer more purchase protections than cash, check, debit card or app purchases. Secure websites should also display a lock icon to the left of the URL in the address bar and, in an address beginning with “https” the “s” won’t appear until users access the site’s order page to enter their personal information.
Once a buyer gets their tickets, they should inspect the physical copies, making sure the date, time and location is correct for the event and that the seat assignment exists within the venue.
Missouri residents with complaints regarding potential ticket scams can contact the Consumer Complaint Hotline at 1-800-392-8222 or visit ago.mo.gov.
