Motorcyclist ejected and run over after late night collision on Kansas City highway
Police are investigating after a multiple vehicle pile-up Saturday night on a Kansas City area highway left one motorcyclist in critical condition.
Officers responded to reports of a collision at 11:02 p.m. near Interstate 435 and U.S Highway 152 heading west, according to Capt. Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the police department.
An investigation determined that a Chevrolet Malibu traveling west on the highway rear ended a Harley Street Glide, also driving west. The impact ejected the motorcyclist from their vehicle and left them lying in the middle of the road.
Shortly after, the Chevrolet Malibu was rear ended by a Honda Civic. Another car, a Dodge Ram, attempted to stop just short of the crash, but was hit from behind by a Toyota Scion.
A Ford Focus also traveling on the highway then collided with the motorcyclist still suffering from injuries in the middle of the roadway.
The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The Chevrolet driver suffered injuries in the pile-up and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
No one else was injured in the collision, according to Carlisle.
The area of the highway near the crash, around Shoal Creek, remained closed for over two hours following the incident.
