One person died following a three-vehicle crash Saturday in Independence.

Officers responded around 1:20 p.m. to the crash in the area of Truman Road and Brookside Avenue, according to a news release from Sgt. Steven Boles, a spokesman for the Independence Police Department.

A GMC Yukon was traveling eastbound on Truman when it struck the rear of a Jeep Wrangler that was stopped in traffic. Then, the GMC moved into the westbound lanes of Truman and collided with a Toyota Corolla, Boles said.

The driver of the Toyota died of their injuries at the scene.

Police said the other two drivers were not injured.

The crash is under investigation.
