An inmate died last week after being found unconscious in a Leavenworth penitentiary.

Staff found Trenton D. Washington, 33, unresponsive around 3:15 p.m. Friday and began life-saving measures, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.

Emergency medical crews transported Washington to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following day.

Washington was serving a 30-month sentence after being charged as a felon in possession of a firearm in Nebraska. He had been at the Leavenworth prison since March 21.
