76-year-old motorcyclist dies in hospital after crash on Bruce R. Watkins Drive in KC

A 76-year-old motorcyclist injured in a collision on Bruce R. Watkins Drive has died from his injuries, a Kansas City police spokesman said Friday.

Carl V. Snider died at a hospital after being injured in the crash that occurred about 9:40 a.m. Thursday at 53rd Street and Bruce R. Watkins Drive, which is also known as U.S. 71 highway, said Capt. Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Snider was headed north on Watkins Drive at the time of the collision. He was taken to a hospital with what was initially reported as non-life-threatening injuries. His condition worsened and he was rushed into surgery. Hospital staff pronounced him dead, Carlisle said.

Further details, including the number of vehicles involved in the crash, were not being released. The crash remains under investigation, Carlisle said.

His death is Kansas City’s 19th traffic fatality so far this year in Kansas City. That compares to 31 fatalities by this time last year.
