Two people were seriously injured Saturday morning in a head-on car crash while traveling on a Lenexa interstate.

Officers responded to calls of a collision at 12:20 a.m. on Interstate 435, slightly east of Interstate 35, according to crash reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

An investigation determined that a 40-year-old Lenexa man driving a Buick was traveling east in a lane heading west.

As he continued in the wrong direction, his car collided with a Volkswagon.

The 32-year-old Lawrence woman driving the Volkswagon and the driver of the Buick suffered serious injuries.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital for treatment following the head-on collision.
