One person died early Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle in southeast Kansas City, police say.

Officers responded to a report of a fatal crash on East 103rd Street and Holmes Road just before 3:40 a.m., Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department, said.

After investigating, officers determined that a pedestrian was walking in the third lane of Holmes Road when they were struck by a white Jeep Patriot. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was uninjured and remained at the scene, Drake said, and police do not believe impairment was a factor in the incident.

Drake said the crash investigation is ongoing.
